Question by bliviousmom: What to look under to call someone to finish my basement?

I just moved into a new house and want to hire someone to finish my basement for me. Add carpet, paint, etc. I want to use it primarly as a play room for my kids but I also want to have a couch down there with a TV. I want it to look nice like a living room would. What do I look under in the yellow pages for such a service?

A general contractor when more than one or two things are to be done. In your case, however, I would just go a store and buy carpet and have them install it, then look for a painter in the yellow pages (or ask friends.)
