What is the best certification for a professional translator?

Is the American Translators Association certification as good as they pretend to be? Or is there anything any better?

I would certainly use translators who had this certification behind them. I use similar bodies here in the UK to hire people to do work for me. I've come across ATA before and they look to have good standards.
