How does fiction deal with truth? Is fiction a viable way to get as true as journalism?

Are fictional stories as powerful as factual stories?
I was just thinking of fiction and truth and the power of fiction as opposed to nonfiction...

Fiction is an unlimited world of possibilities. Sometimes it reflects a person's ideal world, or a person's dreams. It is powerful being because it shows a little bit of the hopes and dreams of the person who creates it, or because it gives you that same freedom.

However, fiction doesn't surpass reality because it's here that actual feelings reside, other than virtual things. Whenever you're told a certain story is true, it has a completely different impact on you. It makes you think. Actual things that you can touch make you feel safe. You need that bit of safety, of certainty to carry your own life. The certainty that the world revolves as it should.
